League City Pool Resurfacing answers common pool resurfacing questions from League City, Texas pool owners: what a resurface costs and how long it takes, what repairs and remodel add-ons run, how salt and old water affect a finish, how to ready a pool for a hurricane, and how the City inspects pool work.
The answers come from the City of League City, Texas rules, industry bodies such as the National Plasterers Council, the makers' own instructions, and typical Houston-area and national prices, each with its year. Pool resurfacing cost and timing questions
What is the average cost of resurfacing a pool?
It runs into the thousands, set mostly by the pool's size and the finish. Typical Houston-area figures for 2025 start at about $3,000 for basic white plaster in a small play pool and reach $15,000 or more for a premium pebble finish in a large diving pool, with an average Houston pool and finish at about $6,000 to $8,000. Nationally, most owners spent $6,000 to $15,000 in 2026, around $11,000 on average, and a Houston-area builder's 2026 guide tells gunite pool owners to plan on $5,000 to $10,000 every 10 to 15 years. Our guide to pool resurfacing cost in League City breaks those figures down by finish and adds the City's permit fees and refill water.
How long does pool resurfacing take?
The work itself takes days rather than weeks. National 2025 cost figures say most resurfacing contractors finish in five days, and a national guide to Pebble Tec puts that finish's resurfacing process at 1 to 2 weeks; Pebble Technology International itself says a pool project can take a week and much longer, depending on its scope. A full pool isn't the end of the job, though. By NPT's count, 86 percent of the cement in new plaster has cured by day 28, and that month is what the new pool plaster start-up covers.
Can I resurface my pool myself?
The makers' terms lean the other way. NPT gives every StoneScapes and QuartzScapes owner a 10-year limited warranty but keeps its lifetime limited warranty for pools finished by its approved applicators, and it isn't liable for installation problems, water-chemistry damage or an improper start-up. CL Industries' 10-year warranty on its pre-blended finishes takes effect only when a factory-approved applicator puts them on. Draining is the riskiest part: River Pools, a fiberglass pool maker, tells owners who feel a pool must be drained to hire an authorized professional, and our guide to draining a pool before resurfacing explains why League City's groundwater makes that step a careful one. League City Pool Resurfacing gives a free estimate if you'd like a price for the job.

How much do pool repairs cost on average?
National 2026 figures put the average pool repair at $725, from 4,632 projects, with most owners paying $243 to $1,212 and drain and refill fees of $180 to $230 on top when the water has to come out. Most pool repair pros charge $45 to $70 an hour in national 2025 figures, by location, season and type of repair. A Houston-area pool service's 2026 price guide, drawn from its calls across Friendswood, League City, Pearland and Clear Lake, adds that weekend and emergency calls usually carry a premium and that booking a repair ahead saves money. Hollow spots, patches and stains are covered under pool plaster repair, and League City Pool Resurfacing prices a repair free once it has seen the pool.
How much does a pool main drain repair cost?
National 2026 figures put pool drain repairs at $400 to $700, most of it labor rather than parts, and national 2025 figures at $400 to $1,500 once draining and refilling the pool are included. Where an old main drain doesn't meet the ANSI/APSP-7 standard and has to be replaced, a national 2026 guide budgets $800 to $2,000 more. How leaks at main drains and suction fittings are tracked down and fixed is covered under pool leak detection and repair.
How much does it cost to regrout pool tile?
About $3 a square foot for regrouting alone, in national 2025 figures. Water chemistry matters to the new grout as much as the old: the National Plasterers Council says corrosive or aggressive water can destroy pool tile grout, along with metal light rings, heaters and other pool equipment. How old grout comes out, which grouts suit a pool and how long they cure before the water rises are covered under pool tile replacement and repair.
What is the most affordable option for pool coping?
Concrete, in published figures. National 2026 averages per linear foot run $40 to $55 for concrete coping, $45 to $65 for brick, $45 to $70 for composite, $50 to $70 for pavers, $55 to $75 for sandstone, $55 to $80 for travertine and $60 to $80 for other natural stone, and the same figures say replacing existing coping costs more than installing new. How stone, brick, paver and poured concrete edges are set is covered under pool coping replacement, and League City Pool Resurfacing gives free estimates on coping work.

How much does it cost to add steps or a bench to a pool?
Steps or benches added while a pool is being resurfaced run $200 to $5,000 in national 2026 figures. Replacing pool steps with a full set of wall steps runs about $4,500 or more in national 2025 figures, while repairing cracked or broken steps averages $65 per linear foot. Steps and benches built along with a new ledge follow the code's limits for treads, risers and bench depth, set out under tanning ledges and beach entries.
How much does it cost to convert a diving pool to a shallow pool?
Turning a deep pool into a shallow one costs $3,500 to $7,000 in national 2025 figures. What the code then asks of a nondiving pool, and how new shotcrete has to bond to the old shell, are covered under pool remodeling, and League City Pool Resurfacing can price the conversion at a free estimate.
How much does it cost to add an infinity edge to an existing pool?
About $35,000 on average, by national 2024 figures for upgrading an existing pool to an infinity design. In the CDC's Model Aquatic Health Code, the edge is a wall and the deck beside it shaped so that, seen from some angles, their top disappears; water spills over it, and the pool's normal filtration catches and treats it for reuse. The same glossary lists vanishing, negative and zero edges as other names. National 2025 figures for new infinity pools add that running one costs more, because of the extra filtering and recirculation from the catch basin. Waterproofing and finishing a vanishing-edge wall are covered under pool water features.
How much does it cost to upgrade pool lights in a remodel?
One pool builder's published 2026 renovation prices put a full lighting upgrade at about $700 to $1,500, or $500 to $1,700 per light, and typical Houston-area 2026 prices for LED lighting on a new pool run $700 to $2,000, depending on how many lights go in. Timing can save money: a national 2026 guide for HOA reserves suggests folding light niche work into the same project as waterline tile and coping repair, so the crew's mobilization and the drain and refill happen once. The HOA side of that planning is covered under HOA and community pool resurfacing, and League City Pool Resurfacing will price the lights along with the rest of the job.

How often should pool water be drained and replaced?
The National Plasterers Council goes by dissolved solids: problems such as cloudy water and balance that's hard to hold may begin once total dissolved solids pass about 1,500 ppm, and its fix is to drain some of the water and replace it with fresh, not to empty the pool, since the Council wants a finish kept fully underwater as long as it's in use, except for limited servicing or repair. The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance adds that water with 3,000 ppm of dissolved solids can fall outside the balanced range even when every other reading looks ideal. Check League City's drought stage before a partial drain, since the City's plan can restrict draining and refilling from Stage 2, and League City Pool Resurfacing can talk through a water test at the estimate.
Can too much salt damage a pool finish?
Pentair, which makes salt chlorine generators, says it can. Its IntelliChlor guide sets a range of 3,000 to 4,500 ppm, ideally 3,400, and warns that above 4,500 ppm the risk of corrosion and deterioration rises for pool equipment and for surfaces in and around the pool; its fix is to drain and refill about a foot at a time until the level drops below 4,500. Hayward sets a lower band for its AquaRite, 2,700 to 3,400 ppm with 3,200 optimal, notes that salt begins to taste at about 3,500 to 4,000 ppm, and says evaporation doesn't remove salt, so partly draining the pool and refilling with fresh water is the only way to bring the level down. Follow the manual for the cell on your own pool; League City Pool Resurfacing will go over the salt level with you before a new finish goes in.

(281) 694-4352Pool repair questions about League City storms and soil
How should a pool be prepared for a hurricane?
The Florida Swimming Pool Association gives the season as June 1 to November 30, and its steps before a storm start in the yard: cut back branches, clear away loose debris, and shock the pool so the water holds up if a power cut stops the pump. Makers disagree about patio furniture. The association says furniture that can't go indoors may be lowered gently into the pool, taking care not to scratch the finish, while River Pools says not to put it in the pool at all, since it could damage the interior finish, and to tie it down instead. River Pools also advises leaving the pool cover off, because big debris blowing into the pool could tear it. What to check once the water goes down is covered under pool crack repair.
Is League City's soil hard on a pool's steel?
On bare steel, yes. The USDA's soil database rates the main soil at every League City point checked "High" for corrosion of uncoated steel, across the Bernard, Kemah, Edna, Morey, Leton and Aris soils. Its ratings for corrosion of concrete vary more, from "Low" through "Moderate" to "High" at one point, by Gilmore Elementary. The steel in a pool shell sits inside its concrete, and League City Pool Resurfacing will talk through what any cracks, rust stains or spalled spots on your pool point to at a free estimate.

(281) 694-4352Pool resurfacing permit and inspection questions in League City
What inspections does a permitted pool job get in League City?
Where the City issues a pool permit, its inspections run in a set order: the pool's structural steel with the equipment pad; electrical and bonding; plumbing, which covers the vacuum breaker and pool fill, any gas line and any p-trap; the deck steel and bonding; the area drain; and a final, for which someone has to let the inspector into the home. Fiberglass pools get two structural inspections, before and after the shell is set. Inspections are booked through the City's Online Permit Portal by 3 p.m. for the next business day, and on Fridays they end at 11 a.m. No City page says whether resurfacing on its own needs a permit, so ask the Building Department before the work is booked; League City Pool Resurfacing will go over the question with you at the estimate.
Does a pool's fill line need backflow protection in League City?
On a permitted pool, yes. League City's pool permit asks for the vacuum breaker's location, noting that a pool fill is required, and the plumbing inspection checks it: a reduced-pressure or pressure vacuum breaker assembly needs its test report verified in the City's backflow records before it passes, while an atmospheric vacuum breaker needs no report. Where a testable assembly is required, the City's backflow program has the owner pay a licensed tester to certify it on installation and at least once a year, plus a one-time $35 registration fee per device; the City's pages don't list pool auto-fillers among the connections that need one. For HOA, apartment and hotel pools the state goes further, with the first fill and every top-up drawn from a public water system and guarded against backflow by a reduced-pressure preventer or an air gap; the other public-pool rules a resurfacing meets are covered under commercial pool resurfacing.
What hours can pool work be done in League City?
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, under the Building Department's rules for construction work. The same rules ask every job site to keep its approved plans on site, contain its debris, keep the street clear and have a stormwater plan and a concrete washout on site, and a new in-ground pool's permit application includes a stormwater pollution prevention plan. League City Pool Resurfacing takes calls and estimate requests 24/7, while the work on site keeps to the City's hours.
What deck rules apply to an HOA or apartment pool in Texas?
The public-pool rules. For commercial pools, Texas's health department has adopted the 2021 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code by reference, and that code asks for a deck or clear access along no less than 90 percent of the pool's perimeter, slip-resistant walking surfaces within 4 feet of the water, and at least 6 feet of deck width where a spa adjoins the pool. The state's operating rules add that decks must not hold standing water and that deck drains must be kept clean so water doesn't collect. Coatings and overlays for a worn deck are covered under pool deck resurfacing.
